Requesting money from Merrill Student Government

Merrill Student Government allocates a quarterly budget of $1000 to fund programs sponsored by student groups and organizations. When deciding if you will be requesting funds from Merrill Student Government please read this document in its entirety and thoroughly to be sure all the steps are followed. 


Thank you for showing interest in the Merrill Student Government (MSG). MSG is the student governing body at Merrill College and is charged with providing a voice and resources to Merrill Students at UCSC. In addition MSG also provides limited funding to aid in the implementation of programs and events that benefit the student population of Merrill College. When deciding if you will be requesting funds from MSG please read this document in its entirety and thoroughly to be sure all the steps are followed. MSG allocates a quarterly budget of $1000 to fund programs sponsored by student groups and organizations.



  1. Fill out all the funding request form in its entirety. These should include:
    MSG Funding Questions
    MSG Funding Request
    “For Student Representative” portion of student org funding form or FOAPAL information if not a SOAR, or Student Media org
    Attach an itemized event budget
  2. Funding request needs to be in 2-3 weeks before your event date by noon on Tuesday
  3.  After you have submitted your proposal, you will be contacted with information as to which meeting you will be scheduled to present at. Generally, the person submitting the funding request will be scheduled to be heard the next week.
  4. At the meeting, you will be asked to present on what your program is, and may be asked the questions on the “funding questions” sheet as well as others that may come up specific to your event, feel free to bring notes if you need them.

"The representative sent to the MSG meeting needs to be knowledgeable about your organization as well as the specific funding request."

To be eligible to receive MSG funding you must be one of the following:
A registered SOAR org
A Registered Student Media org
An org or club affiliated with OPERS
A group affiliated with a campus office or academic department with an updated FOAPAL for funding transfers (this FOAPAL information MUST be on your forms before you will be heard)

Groups that do not fill out paperwork properly will not be contacted.
