Science Learning Community (SLC)
The SLC partners with the Academic Excellence Program (ACE) to provide support to students in their required science courses by delivering information in small groups with dynamic teaching styles. Statistics show that UCSC science students who participate in extra academic sections, like those offered as a part of the SLC/ACE, earn 6% more A grades and 7% more B grades in their supported courses.
The SLC/ACE discussion sections meet for 4 hours each week with professional teaching staff and take the place of the required secondary discussion section for the math or science courses. The SLC/ACE discussion sections provide a challenging and supportive setting to help students develop skills that will help to earn them higher grades in science and math.
The SLC supports the General Chemistry (CHEM 1A) and the Pre-calculus (MATH 3) courses during the fall quarter. To be eligible for the SLC, students need to enroll in CHEM 1A and/or MATH 3 (or higher) for the fall quarter.
